Sod becomes available from the suppliers on or around June 1st, and can be installed into late September or Early October, depending on temperatures.
We begin doing Estimates and Customer Consultation in early to late March and then begin scheduling for June 1st installations on a first come, first serve basis.
If clients have summer pictures of their property or surveyor documents from their new build home, we can begin consultation and estimation throughout the winter to get a head start!
Newly laid sod should routinely be water for approximately 20-25 minutes in the early morning hours before the mid day heat, and then for 20-25 minutes in the evening to replenish the evaporated moisture so it can remain moist all night long.
We recommend only water 3 times a day during the hottest months of mid-summer due to the rate of evaporation if it appears the sod is becoming dry and bristly.
This maintenance cycle lasts for 2-3 weeks until the sod rolls appear to be rooted and no longer lift.
Mowing with the bag off and mulching your grass clippings is best practice. It uses nature's own material to add nutrients back into the lawn all season long.
Bagging is best when the grass is very wet and heavy, or very long to prevent covering the lawn with excess material.
It depends on your properties needs and where it will be placed.
Peat Sod is more vibrant, greener and has a showroom appearance, but requires high amounts of watering and maintenance. It needs to be in a low traffic area due to low durability.
Mineral Soil Sod is more durable and stands up better to high traffic areas. It holds water better due to the soil content and requires less maintenance.
At Imagine, we only use Mineral Soil Sod unless Peat Sod is requested.
